Organisers of a fair about beekeeping have drawn a positive review as the event in southwestern Germany welcomed significantly more visitors than in the previous year.
Around 7,000 people attended the Eurobee 2023 in Friedrichshafen, a city at Lake Constance, Baden-Württemberg. This is a year-on-year increase of 2,000 visitors.
Organiser Meinrad Leiter from the German Union of Professional Beekeepers said: “We had more to offer this time as 138 exhibitors presented their products. Interesting firms attract more visitors.”
Apiculture businesspeople from countries such as the Netherlands, France, Slovenia and Pakistan participated in the Eurobee 2023, Leiter added.
After being cancelled due to the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, Eurobee was relocated from a venue in Donaueschingen to the Friedrichshafen fairground in the following year.
The fair does not just have a commercial focus. The event team also organises lectures and workshops regarding topics such as parasites and global warming.
This year’s edition of the three-day event will take place in Friedrichshafen from the 8th of November.
China is the leading producer of honey in the world, followed by the European Union’s 27 member states.
The EU-27 beekeeping ranking is topped by Spain, Romania and Greece. Germany is in 8th place as far as the number of honeybee hives is concerned.
