This is the moment a university student returning to his dormitory for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began in January finds a colony of honeybees occupying his roommate’s wardrobe.
Zhang Jiecong, 22, made the startling discovery on 18th May when he walked into his dorm room and found dead bee carcasses strewn across the tile floor. https://www.youtube.com/embed/Wx6qa77SMzM
Footage shared online shows Mr Zhang panning across his room at Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications in south-western China, revealing the numerous dead bees on the floor.
He then walks over to his roommate’s closet, where the colony of honeybees has taken over and built a sizable honeycomb.
Mr Zhang is a year-four student and soon-to-be university graduate in the summer.
He said: “I’d not been back for about six months, so it was like suddenly having a new neighbour.
“I was afraid of being stung, but it was really unbelievable. It was unreal. It was a very big honeycomb.
“I called the school’s security guards for help afterwards. We had some honey, too. It was very sweet.”
The surviving bees are believed to have been released outside.
