Experts Suggest Fighting Silverfish With Honey

Honey can be used to fight one of the most infamous household pests.

Experts at Ludwigshafen24 advised anyone encountering silverfish in their homes to apply a spoonful of honey on some kitchen roll or paper tissue.

They said: “Place it where you have spotted the silverfish most often. Leave the piece of honey-soaked tissue there overnight.”

Silverfish, also known as Lepisma saccharinum, are wingless insects that exist almost everywhere around the world. The nocturnal species, which feeds on sugary products and starches, inhabits moist areas.

According to Ludwigshafen24, the insects will be attracted by the product’s sweetness. The German online newspaper promised: “You will be able to dispose of them the next morning.”

Silverfish can appear in kitchens, bathrooms and basements. Numerous chemical substances are available in drugstores and DIY markets.

Good Housekeeping urges anyone affected by silverfish infestations to reduce humidity and seal up their food.

On the website, it says: “You don’t want to pour out a bowl of your favourite cereal just to find it’s swimming with these squirming insects.”

Fantastic Pest Control, a company based in London, United Kingdom, meanwhile emphasised: “Silverfish do not spread any known diseases and are not venomous to humans.”
