A beekeeper who manages hives in the back garden of a cultural institution in the heart of Cologne is organising a workshop for children this weekend.
Ansgar Scheuten is looking forward to informing kids aged between five and 10 about the vital responsibilities of the insects at the Institut français Cologne from 10 am this Saturday (3rd of June).
Ansgar – who has more than 25 years of beekeeping experience – will arrange workshop stations focusing on the role of honeybees and the fascinating life inside a hive.
The young participant – who shall attend the free-of-charge event accompanied by a parent – will also learn how to apply wildflower seed packages.
The Institut français is located at Sachsenring 77 close to the North-Rhine Westphalian city’s Volksgarten.
Speaking about how it all started for him back in 1995, Ansgar said: “Just out of interest, I attended a lecture about apiculture. I was fascinated immediately.”
He emphasised: “There’s so much more to beekeeping. Working with bees helps understanding nature.”
